There's almost no words as the woman, her smile bright and warm, reaches over to hand the sleeping bundle to Jiang Cheng who - gingerly, placing his sword down and looking beyond awkward - takes the baby into his arms, adjusting them to make sure he doesn't drop his nephew.
There are mutterings around him, someone saying the name of the baby - Jin Ling, courtesy name Jin Rulan - but he doesn't seem to be paying attention. Instead all he feels is a sense of awe and wonder, his finger lifting to touch gently at the baby's cheek as he tries, almost desperately, to stop himself from bursting into tears.
It's not until his sister laughs and says his name, a-Cheng, that he sniffs and forces himself to be a little more steely, shaking his head and scoffing, complimenting how strong their little a-Ling seems.
