MEMORY SHARE: 12 OF BEETROOT EVENT (May)

JEMA'GRETHY MEMORY SHARE

The caves of Jema'grethy will allow for a few different ways for memories to be interacted with. But for most, such as those entering in bonds, it will be seen like a vision in their head, putting them in the position and perspective of whose memory it is.

For people sharing bond memories, and also memories being shared while moving through the Memory Cave, this is the spot to place said memories! It's not necessary if you'd like to write it during the thread, but hopefully convenient for others. Just make a toplevel with your character's name in the header, and remember to include any content warnings thereafter for each memory, as applicable!

It should be a relief to be here. It's late in the year - you've missed the apple harvest - but the snows haven't started falling yet, and you've all arrived safely in Arkwood today, which means family dinner tonight.

It should be a celebration. The family has been reunited again - Endon and Orion, their mother and sister, the friends of their fathers who'd helped raise them, and you, the healer they've made their youngest brother - and everyone is home safe. There's even lamb on the table, a rare treat this time of year.

But there's an uneasiness in the air that the celebration, gentle and warm as it is, can't smooth over entirely. Nobody here knows why you're late, but that you were this late at all is cause enough for concern. The whole story will come out after dinner - it always does, when there's a story that needs telling.

But you know why you were late. So does Endon. So does Orion.

And Endon is quieter than usual tonight, even for him. And Orion's smile, normally as bright and warm as he is, isn't reaching his eyes.

And you-

You know this is Torren's fault, poisoning them from beyond the grave, because even dead he won't leave you alone-

You're quiet in an attempt to keep your own poison in check. You hadn't at the tribunal after Torren's death, but they had asked. That had been the place and time for it. Family dinner...isn't.

Lia leans over in a way that is not at all subtle and whispers in your ear in a way that is not at all quiet, promising you her famous hot chocolate tonight if you can tell her the full story - as much of it as is yours to tell, anyway. You nod, and she nudges your shoulder with hers before straightening back up. It's support, in her own way, and while you don't exactly feel better, she's at least managed to take the edge off.

You turn your attention back to your dinner and let the conversation flow past you, hampered as it is by the unanswered questions in the air. The lamb is good, and you don't want it to get cold.

Orastin is huge. You've never seen a city this big - you've never seen a lot of things, but the city in particular, this many people all in one place and the sprawl of buildings and streets and a harbor in the middle of everything, has utterly blown your mind. You're still reeling a bit - in a good way, but reeling nonetheless - when Orion opens a small nondescript door nestled between two buildings and ushers you inside, himself and Endon not far behind. You step through and watch as what you thought would be an alley gives way to a verdant glade, trees providing shade from the afternoon sun over a grassy lawn with benches surrounding it and pathways leading off to sheltered, enclosed areas - meeting rooms and places to rest. There's an arch across the way, ornate and carved, and you can't take your eyes off of it. You've heard about this before. That's the doorway to clan - it'll take you to your clan, to people who share your blood and your magic, to what you've been told is structure and training and acceptance. It's welcoming. It's safe.

It's where your journey ends. It's where you separate from Endon and Orion. They'd promised your uncle they'd get you safely to clan, after all - nobody had said anything about what happens after that.

Your chest constricts at the thought. You don't want to go. You don't want to go-

You feel a hand on your shoulder and look up to see Orion smiling at you. "See, we made it," he says, nodding at the arch. "Just step through and your clan will take care of you."

"There should be an attendant on the other side to help you get settled," Endon adds. "You shouldn't be alone for very long, if at all."

There's a pause - you've been with them long enough to know that they're giving you space to respond - and you try to find your voice. "Shouldn't we- set a meeting time?" It sounds small, even to your ears, but you have to try. You always set a meeting time when you split up - maybe they'll get what you're saying.

They exchange a glance, and it's Orion who replies. "Later. Don't worry about it."

You don't need to worry because you won't be with them. Because this is it.

You swallow, hard, and try to keep it together, even though you can feel that slight unsteadiness that means you're trembling again. You don't want to go- they haven't made you go, and you don't want to- but what can you do-

You're allowed to ask for what you want.

You take a breath.

We won't always say yes, but I promise we won't get mad.

Orion had told you that, months ago. You'd done your best to take it to heart. And if there was ever a time to do it-

"I want to stay." The words are still quiet, but there's a strength to them that hadn't been before. This is you asking for what you want. "I mean- I want to keep traveling with you. Both of you."

The words are out, and you do your best to remember to keep breathing as Orion and Endon share a long look, having a conversation without saying a word-

Before Endon smiles and Orion breaks out into a wide grin. "I guess we do need to figure out a meeting time, then."

Your legs nearly give out as your body floods with relief - with joy - and the next second you're swept into a hug, smiling as your friends hold you tightly and you hold them back. This is where you want to be.
